Prof. Dr. Beril Dedeoğlu (Former Minister of European Union)

“In Strategic Analysis in Cultural Diplomacy Training organized by Yunus Emre Enstitüsü, the following topic came to the fore: What kind of reactions will Enstitü’s activities get in a region with a distinct chemistry like Latin America? Take Brazil, for example. There, the model of living may be secular, however they are also strictly Catholic. So you can come up with a language to connect from within your conservative life philosophy. As long as you desire this. But if you say, ‘Do we have to wear carnival costumes to communicate with them?’, that is your choice. It is a must to easily attract those who wear carnival costumes. It is the way for Turkey to further its presence softly in the world, based over its very own values. In Latin America people’s reactions are different, and their reflexes too… But Latin people are very gentle people. So they can be persuaded. “
