VICTORY AT GALLIPOLI BRINGS NATIONS TOGETHER A CENTURY LATER

Written by TR Dergisi

This year is the 100th anniversary of Gallipoli Victory. Çanakkale, where soldiers from all around the world came face to face in 1915, today transforms into an international peace bridge that brings together and binds the grandchildren of those soldiers.

Dardanelles that connects the two continents as an exquisite gorget, constitutes an international bridge of emotion and culture. Battle of Gallipoli which makes these lands meaningful, is undoubtedly a milestone in the history. Historic Gallipoli Peninsula has been swarmed with foreign tourists for years, especially Australian and New Zealanders who suffered heavy losses during Battle of Gallipoli. Those who travel to the region to visit the war memorials are welcomed by a colossus memorial entering Dardanelles: Martyrs’ Memorial. This and tens of similar memorials situated on the peninsula are surrounded by people praying. In the 101st anniversary of this victory, we take it as our duty to commemorate first Gazi Mustafa Kemal who had the quote “Çanakkale Cannot Be Passed” written in history in gold letters and his brothers in arms, and all the martyrs who gave their lives for their countries.
