The Vanishing Point Exhibition in Dubrovnik

Organized by Dubrovnik Museum of Modern Art (MOMA Dubrovnik), The Vanishing Point exhibition featuring photographs by Turkish photographer and architect Ahmet Ertuğ, opened at MOMA Dubrovnik on December 14^th. The artist who photographed the most important works in the history of architecture, has been working on the exhibition for three years and finally included the five most important structures in Dubrovnik in the selection. The photography exhibition features photographs of palaces, libraries and theatre halls in Italy. The photographer took pictures using 20×25 cm films with classical hooded cameras with total weights reaching up to 15 kilograms, and in the exhibition, there are a total of 20 large-size photographs, 180 x 225 cm in size.

Dubrovnik, which maintained its independence as a city state for 500 years, boasts a unique wealth with its cultural and religious structures within the city walls that are around two-kilometres long and which still stand. The artist aims to surprise the audience with Dubrovnik photographs selected for the exhibition, by revealing various important monuments as the Rector’s Palace, the Franciscan Monastery and Library, the Sponza Palace Atrium, and the 700-year-old Dominican Monastery Library.

The artist who is also an architect, aims to create awareness for the preservation of architectural heritage with his photographs. He has written 30 world class art books to date, on subjects such as the works of Mimar Sinan, İznik tiles in Ottoman period architectural structures, Turkish rugs and silks, the monumental dimensions of Hagia Sophia, fresco and mosaics in Chora Museum, Mount Nemrut and art works dating back to Kingdom of Commagene, and historical libraries and opera halls in Europe. At the same time, he opened important personal exhibitions in  Paris, London, New York, Vienna and Istanbul.

The exhibition organized by MOME Dubrovnik is sponsored by Dubrovnik Municipality and Turkish organizations such as Turkish Airlines and Rixos Libertas Dubrovnik, and supported by Zagreb Yunus Emre Enstitüsü. The exhibition can be visited at Dubrovnik Museum of Modern Art until March 11^th, 2018. The exhibition is planned to be organized in Paris in 2018-2019.
