‘ERTUGRUL 1890’ A HIT

Film narrates the touching story of Ottoman Frigate Ertuğrul which sank in Japanese waters in 1890 and the event where 215 Japanese citizens were rescued from the war between Iran and Iraq in 1985 with a fictional script. The film grossed 1 million 97 thousand Turkish Liras in three days.
Film met with Japanese audience on 5 December and with Turkish audience on 25 December. Director Mitsutoshi Tanaka who produced Turkish-Japanese co-production ‘Ertuğrul 1890’ expressed that he got the idea for the film 10 years ago, upon visiting a friend in the town of Kushimato where Ertuğrul Frigate disaster took place who showed him a letter written by Ottoman diplomats of the period. He marked that filming began last year and has received great support from Turkish and Japanese people.
Prof. Dr. İskender Pala is the screenplay and history consultant for ‘Ertuğrul 1890’ opened with a strong cast. 4,5 months of filming took place in Turkey and Japan.
