A Breeze Of Istanbul In Paris

A BREEZE OF ISTANBUL HAS PASSED THROUGH PARIS DURING THE 70th ANNIVERSARY OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF UNESCO. THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF ISTANBUL BECOMING A PART OF THE WORLD HERITAGE LIST WAS CELEBRATED WITH EVENTS ORGANISED IN PARIS.

A series of events were organised in Paris between of 8-10 April for the 70th anniversary of the establishment of The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and the 30th anniversary of Istanbul becoming a part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. As part of these events, an exhibition titled ‘The Photographs of Istanbul’ was opened and beautiful images of Istanbul adorned the walls. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Orchestra and Los Pasaros Sefaradis group gave a concert titled ‘The Voices of Istanbul’, presenting a musical feast to its audience. Sufi music was also performed during these events in which whirling dervishes performed.
A panel titled “Conservation of Cultural Heritage and Urban Development” at the headquarters of UNESCO in the capital city of Paris also took place. Kadir Topbaş, the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, who delivered a speech at this panel, also made a request to hold the 40th meetings of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Istanbul. Topbaş, who stated “This event will have a tremendous impact on the promotion of our city Istanbul”, received an acknowledgement plate and a UNESCO Memorial Medal.
