Those were innocent years, the world was something else. Or at least we believed it was. If the films of those years can still find audience, is not that because we have faith in sincerity and innocence? This book presenting slices from that magical world, features a selection of 50 films including Keşanlı Ali Destanı, Ah Güzel İstanbul, Sevmek Zamanı and Üç Arkadaş. Work written by Assoc. Dr. Barış Bulunmaz and Assist. Assoc. Dr. Ömer Osmanoğlu, gracefully presents the readers with the films which used Istanbul as a natural film set between 1950-1980, and documented the sociocultural transformations that took place in the city. The films deal with and address many issues as identity, personality, problems of belonging, capital and labour relations in urban life, religion, tradition, and social values. In these films, the physical, cultural and social spectacles viewed by the audience are examined. It is possible to find in this book an answer to the question “what did Istanbul gain or lose in those years?”.
