Diwan Lughat al-Turk and Piri Reis Map in UNESCO Memory of the World Register

Turkey UNESCO National Commission registered Diwan Lughat al-Turk and Piri Reis Map in UNESCO Memory of the World Register.

At the International Advisory Committee Meeting held at the UNESCO Paris Headquarters, 78 new heritages worldwide were registered in the Memory of the World Register. The Diwan Lughat al-Turk and Piri Reis Map files prepared by the Turkish UNESCO National Commission, were reviewed by the UNESCO Memory of the World Program International Advisory Committee and registered in the Memory of the World Register. The registry of Diwan Lughat al-Turk, the first known Turkish dictionary written by Mahmud al-Kashgari and Piri Reis Map to the Memory of the World Register is a sign of works’ international significance. Other Turkish heritages in Memory of the World Register are Kültepe Tablets (2015), Evliya Çelebi’s Book of Travels (2013), İstanbul Süleymaniye Library Avicenna Manuscripts Collection (2003), Boğazköy Hittite Tablets (2001), and Boğaziçi University Observation and Earthquake Research Institute Kandilli Observatory Manuscripts (2001).
